British Ski Championships begin in Meribel

For the ninth year running, Méribel is hosting the British National Alpine Ski Championships. The National and Junior Championships take place this week, with the children’s events following from 3rd to 6th April.

Sponsored by real estate investors Delancey, The British Ski Championships is the biggest event on the British alpine calendar. It offers young British athletes the chance to race on the same pistes recently chosen by FIS to host the Finals of the Alpine Ski World Cup in 2015.

The Earl of Wessex, a long standing supporter of the National Championships, will be attending this year’s event. Races take place on the Grand Duc, Gelinotte and Stade slopes, with the finish line and prize-givings at la Chaudanne.

David Ryding is a favourite to win the Men’s Championships, having finished 3rd at last week’s Croatian National Ski Championships – beating one of the world’s top skiers, Ivica Kostelic, in the first slalom event. Chemmy Alcott is still recovering from injury and will not be in Méribel to defend her women’s title.
